Ed Castile

Ed Castile, Director of Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) updates the club on the status of his program. AIDT is the only workforce training program in the world that has ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality and continuous improvement. Since 1999. AIDT has been included in in the top seven workforce traning programs in the country, and ranked #1 in 2004 and 2006.

During the meeting of December 1, 2009, Kevin talked to the club about the significant role that dogs play in law enforcement in the Foley community. His dog Leo, is an integral part of the police force and has assisted in many drug seizure and tracking missions to apprehend offenders.

Kiwanians Lee White (left) and John McCabe read and share books with children at the Magnolia Springs Head Start School. The program is called RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) and has been sponsored by Gulf Shores Kiwanis for eighteen years. Three times yearly, Kiwanians travel to the school to read and distribute books to the children, many of whom don't have books of their own.

Gulf Shores Middle School students display their dream house project entries.

Gulf Shores Middle School students display their projects to the club. These projects are an assignment developed by Math Teacher Roger Reetz designed to push students to engage math skills necessary to scale and design their "Dream House". They must be to scale, and must be able to be opened for inspection, prompting great detail in design and construction.

Speaker Joe Roh demonstrates the Promethean Board technology being used in the Gulf Shores schools during an August meeting. Kiwanis of Gulf Shores has provided funding for several of these in the classroom.
